According to science, the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” is the catchiest song of all time.
Dr. John Ashley Burgoyne of the University of Amsterdam conducted a study in which he created an online game called Hooked on Music.
Gamers listen to parts of famous songs and attempt to sing the rest of the songs once the clips stop playing.
Based on his findings, “Wannabe” was the catchiest of them all. Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5″ was the second catchiest.
However, these results should be taken with a grain of salt. The subjects studied probably consisted primarily of young people as the game was online.
Chances are other songs would come to the fore if there was a more diverse sample size.
Also, the University of London previously conducted a similar study and determined Queen’s “We Are The Champions” was the song most likely to get stuck in your head.
